Graduation is coming up

Graduation is coming up and time is getting short on finding a job! I feel the stress coming on. Looking for a job, finishing up projects, and moving out is becoming my main stresses as of right now.

I haven't been a great blogger in the past weeks because I just don't know what to blog about. My internship is basically the same thing every day, keeping a record of the interaction with the social media networks and creating new post to put up.

I'm working in St. Joseph for the Outreach Center and they gave me a new job to work on in which I'm just not really sure what I need to do. Central High School want a new webpage developed for them I think I have taken on too much for this close to the end of school.

Independent Study

This semester I have been doing an independent study with Mallory Murray as a Social Media Intern.

Some of my duties have been finding blogs posted by presidents from other universities. I was searching these because they were thinking about starting a presidents blog. Also I played on the Northwest Twitter and Facebook accounts changing some things and updating. I draft upcoming events and after Mallory looks over them I post them on Facebook and Twitter.

Also, myself as well as the other two interns took pictures of students doing things such as learning, hanging out, and studying and posted them on Facebook
to get more students involved in our page.
I have went through Twitter and Facebook and looked for new and interesting things other Universities were doing. I have contacted some of the universities to see how they did something so we can do it as well. I have also been keeping an accurate record of information posted on twitter, and facebook through google docs.

Beaches??? Sure, I'm there!

Last year before Christmas I went with my boyfriend and his family on a 5 day trip to Cancun. On this trip we spent most of our time on the beach laying out. The place we stayed was really pretty and had very nice workers. On the third day of the trip we went on an excursion to go snorkeling and I saw a string ray as well as many different fish. We took a hike through the 'woods' and then rode inter-tubes down the river. The river wasn't moving very fast so we had to paddle a lot. We were coming around the corner of the river and we saw people were jumping off a cliff so Tena, my boyfriend's mom, and I went and done it.

My boyfriend ended up surprising me with swimming with the dolphins for my Christmas gift. LOVED IT!
This trip was the first time I had flown anywhere and I loved it. I can't wait to go back someday!

Across the Ocean

In January I went on a cruise to Jamaica and Cayman Islands. This was quite an experience. About 20 of us students loaded up and set sail on Carnival Destiny!

Our cruise was a 5 day cruise. We didn't have great weather which put a damper on the cruise all together but it still was a good time. Our first stop was Jamaica. We were here for 8 hours and it was the nicest day of the cruise. We went on an excursion to Dunn's River Falls which was amazing. When it said climbing a waterfall I thought it meant along a waterfall but we actually climbed up through it. This was my favorite part of the trip.

In Jamaica we walked around some and just when we got there these ladies grabbed my friends and I and wanted to braid our hair. After telling them no a few times we gave in and let them do a couple braids in each of our hair. They wanted 15 dollars for each of them but they only got $5 out of us.

Entering the Caymen Islands was fun as well. We had to get onto a small boat which took us to shore. Since we hadn't planed any excursions, which was good because a lot of them got canceled due to the weather, we just visited some "social" places. We went into Senor Frogs and it was blast. Workers were just dancing around and playing games to get everyone involved.

I'm so glad I had this experience and hope to have other stories to tell later.

Job Searching

It comes time now for me to start job searching. OOOOO WHAT FUN! :) I really want to have a job lined out before I graduate in May. I have been searching and applying for jobs this semester. I really hope I have some interviews lined out for spring break.

I found it really hard to start my job search. My major is IDM -CS but I really enjoy social media and a lot of jobs I have found want an advertising, marketing, or public relation majors. I have added a section for related courses to my resume to prove I have had experience within these majors.

I had a job interview tonight for a job this semester at the St. Joe Center. I would be working with with teachers updating their ecompanion site as well as other task. Praying for a second interview!! :)

I have used Monster, CareerBuilder, LinkedIn job search as well as other places searching jobs.

College Experience

Seeing how I will be leaving Maryville in 3 months for good it just doesn't seem right. Although I'm excited for all the new opportunities I am sad to leave. Maryville has been my home away from home for 4 years. The friends I have met are amazing and know we will always be friends. Getting to know this university has been great. About everyone seems so eager to help out a student or coworker. I have learned many interesting things as well as not interesting things through courses.

I have worked in Wells Hall in the basement for four years now which has helped me grow. I started out being an office assistant and now I'm an ad designer for the Northwest Missourian. I create the online ads as well as the print ads.

Another week, Another day

Back at school this week and ready to start week 2 of my last semester at NW!! Sad day! Although I'm ready for school to be done I know I will look back at it and miss the time spent here! People ask what I do here that makes it fun and I always reply, "I'm from a small town of 925, there is a lot more here to do then what I grew up with".

I haven't started this semester out too great either. I have already forgot to turn in a paper on the third day of class ! :( I really need to get my head back in the game... senioritis has kicked in!

I have some friends that I really need to catch up with. My sister, Kimberly, will be home the same time which is really exciting. My sisters and I really need to get some bonding time in!
